Arrow Are we allowed to use background tracks?

Hello Everybody ~

What is everyone using for background tracks? Are we allowed to use a Karaoke CD or do we have to sing accapella? I actually read all the rules and pages and FAQ's but didn't find anything on this subject. I'm of course assuming ALL of us are going to use something like this on our tapes but want to do it right the first time! Please direct me to where this is stated.

If you're a contestant and respond to my question here, let me know and I'll watch your video!
Best of luck to you and ablove all, have fun!

Hi Dale,

I think doing it acapella will allow you to really let people hear your vocal range. That's what I did.

Hello Dale,

Singing acapella may not sound right with most computer speakers (unless you are 100% you voice sound as exact as a digital musical instrument); and you may increase your tendancy to go flat at some points. On the other hand, having a too complicated mix of background music may mask your voice. So, your best bet may be some quiet background music like instrumental accompliment (e.g piano, guitar) or some unplugged mix.

Hope that help. And all the best!

Mirabelle

The site says that you must upload an A Cappella performance. I think that way people are really able to judge you by your singing voice and your voice won't get drowned in the background music.

Hi Mirabelle,

It's posted under the "Show Details" dropdown menu link on the site. Here is a quote:

"Video tape yourself performing up to 4 minutes of your favourite song (A CAPPELLA - without music in the background). Always start off with a brief introduction of yourself and identify the song you will be performing. The first 4 minutes of your video clip (including your introduction) is what you'll be judged on. So don't ramble on too long or you won't have enough time to showcase your talent. Remember to make it fun, people are not only judging you on your singing talent, but also on your likability, performance, and dance moves."

Thanks taco3499!

I've got an email from Jay today that notified me about that change in video requirement. I was a little surprised, though. But I think it makes sense because, in that way, it will be fair to everybody.

Thanks for your sharing, anyways.

Cheers! )

We ask that you not use any background music in your video performance. We are only accepting a cappellas. Hope that answers your question. Good luck.

It will be hard to really judge the performances from Acappella only! Of course you get to hear the natural voice, but it also makes it very amateur using no background music or better equipment. I think we should all post at least one video acappella and than show how we could really sound using background music and light fx. Never could figure out why we have these contest where you only sing acappella, but in real life, we hear singers sing with music and some very neath FX and of course, some pitch correctors!!
