Question about the Money that was collected via PayPal
Jay (or whomever can answer this) please forgive me if this has been discussed already but since I only joined yesterday it's been on my mind....
It appears that over $4,000 was collected at PayPal. Without sounding or coming across as niave, is there any reason why that amount couldn't have been moved into the Honor System at Amazon.com?? My reason for asking is that the people that donated did so because they wanted to and believed in the cause.... it was PayPal that shut down the account from accepting any further donations. However, wasn't the money that was already donated move into the account donated to??? I've worked with PayPal in the past and in my contacts with them, it was stated that refunds can only be given after the person requests it and they have to provide valid reasons for why they are asking for it and there is no set ETA on when PayPal will return the monies. I know all situations are different but did PayPal take that money from you or the account it was intended for?? If so, why did they do that? I'm just curious about what actually happend and why. It's a shame that all that money has to be obtained all over again...... |

Thanks! I did read all the annoucements but it was very vague as to why PayPal did what they did. What excessive risk?
I didn't know that someone's account could be shut down for excessive payments coming in. Maybe I missed a thread somewhere. Thanks anyway.. ![]() |

Jay cannot touch the money in that paypal account right now, not even to move it. They have frozen it. The only thing Jay can do is request paypal to refund everyone.
From what paypal said to Jay in the email I get the feeling that they are worried that people could come back and decide this is/was a scam and all demand there money back. So they decided to shut it down and part ways with Jay now before this thing quadruples in size and they have potentially thousands of people emailing them and filing fraudulant claims. That is the feeling I get from the emails Jay posted from paypal. |

You know, I actually found the thread and wanted to smack myself as it was right there in front of me.
I can totally understand how this could have happend. I also read the posts made by Elizabeth. I see that many really stomped on her, but she did have a legitimate reason for posting what she did. While I don't believe Jay is a scam, I can't help but wonder "what if". Regardless, if a person chooses to contribute after reading all the information that has been posted here, only they can be held accountable for their actions. Jay has not attempted to remove any negative posts, which to me, says a lot. It's a sin that here, in 2005, we've come to the point where every single thing we do, say or feel is scruitinzed, yet I remember growing up in a world where trust was never an issue. It's really sad..... |
